Mindfulness in the workplace

Picture
I am delighted to be working with EDF energy in Barnwood, Gloucester, bringing the benefits of mindfulness  meditation to the workforce.
Within two days of announcing the six week classes,  the fifteen spaces were quickly snapped up. It's good to see a large corporation taking on board meditation to support their employees.

"Very positive for me in helping me learn to relax."

"...have enjoyed the sessions hugely and the exercises have helped me deal with bouts of insomnia"

'Kathryn's nature and personality melted any scepticism that people may have had about mindfulness and it was a pleasure working with her.'
Julia Jones HR Hazelwoods, Cheltenham

'Kathryn visited our company for our wellbeing day to hold a taster session on mindfulness. About 20 of us attended. Everyone who attended remarked how useful they found it and how relaxed they felt afterwards. So much so that a number of people wanted to know more and start up a regular mindfulness class in the office.'
Bernie Parry ONR

'I just wanted to thank you for the session that you ran for us this week.  It was really well received and delivered exactly what we had wanted; some time and techniques for our people to use for themselves.  We received some really good initial feedback, people really connected with what you were saying and really engaged with the activity.'

"(Meditation) might sound like a fluffy thing to be advocating in a business context, but when you look at the outcomes it is far from it.
Twenty minutes of meditation everyday can reconfigure the brain in increase creativity, positivity and well being"

Why stress is bad for business...

What do eBay, Google, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Prudential, the Home Office, Transport for London and the NHS have in common? Well apart from being busy and successful companies - they have all launched mindfulness programmes in their respective workplaces.

Teaching mindfulness meditation to employees can help them deal with stress and change in the workplace. They become calmer and more equanimous; more effective and happier workers. A regular meditation practice will also help them to become reflective and responsive in the workplace - allowing ideas and creativity to flow.  Too often when faced with challenges and interruptions - we instantly react and this creates anxiety and disharmony. Meditation will demonstrate how responding to problems creates space and the freedom to choose what to do next
.
One of the most beneficial aspects of meditation is in allowing people to pay more attention and noticing what's going on within themselves and with others. It helps us to be fully present with someone - listening to their ideas or concerns and responding wisely.
Too often in business - managers don't fully engage in active listening and vital information which could improve a business or highlight a problem, is lost.
Adapting to change and challenge in the workplace can create anxiety and stress - the biggest cause of employee sickness is now stress related, it is the single biggest factor in all employee absenteeism.

What I offer...

  • Meditation and mindfulness workshops for employees.
Ideally a series of  forty five  minutes to one hour sessions over six weeks exploring different methods of meditation; typically each session will explore three types of meditation lasting about ten minutes each.
Sessions can take place during the lunch hour or after work.
The employer can subsidise these sessions or employees can pay the full cost.
The aim will be to encourage employees to develop their own practise.
Sessions take place in a quiet room with chairs.

  • Calm the anxious mind.
A  talk on why our mind constantly chatters, bringing with it a sense of anxiety and un ease because we are constantly bringing our attention to the future or dwelling on the past.

This talk also incorporates two mindfulness meditations with time for questions and a handout on the benefits of meditation .

Please contact me for cost - I can be flexible and charge less for more than one talk on one day or over a period of days.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kathryn ran a short meditation workshop for my team as part of a day focusing on developing wellbeing -it was the perfect reflective end to a nurturing day. I hoped that it would spark an interest and raise awareness of this incredible technique. People have commented how useful and restorative they found the session. Thanks Kathryn
